If you are a New Castle county resident age 50 or older, you are on the
"most wanted list" throughout the county. You are wanted by
large industries and small businesses alike for your background, knowledge
and potential as a valuable older worker. Today's job market respects
experience, and companies are hiring older workers as a cost-effective
solution to acquiring the talent they otherwise couldn't afford.
Studies show that older workers can improve a company's
productivity while reducing its personnel costs. Older workers, contrary
to myth, account for few on-the-job injuries and have excellent attendance
records. In addition, the older work force offers employers the following
benefits: dependability, maturity, reliability and sound judgment.
In return for your skills, employers offer you - the older
worker - supplementary income, job satisfaction, a new challenge, and
a more productive lifestyle. If ever there was a time to be an older
worker in New Castle County, NOW is the time! Your skills are valued:
you are in demand. Local employers need older workers, and finding these
workers is our job.

Purpose
of Senior Employment Services |
Our program's purpose is to help adults age fifty or older participate
in a variety of employment opportunities. Job seekers are provided with
referrals from local employers, job search training, skills counseling
and resume preparation guidance. The services are provided through two
employment programs: Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
and Job Referral/Placement Program.

Senior
Community Service Employment Program |
The
Senior Community Service Employment Program was started in 1973 as a small
service employment program for older job seekers. Today more than 70,000
seniors are working through the SCSEP program in communities across the
nation. The Title V SCSEP program is a work experience and training program
that provides useful part-time employment and job readiness activities.
Participants reestablish work skills in order to prepare for permanent
employment.
Enrollment in this program is open to all economically
disadvantaged job seekers ages 55 and older. Eligible candidates are
placed in state and local government offices or non-profit community
service agencies for work experience. Candidates may work 20 hours per
week.

Job
Referral/Placement Program |
The Job Referral/Placement Program has been in operation at the Wilmington
Senior Center since 1976. The program is designed to address the employment
needs of older persons who are residents of New Castle County. Enrollment
is open to job seekers who are ages 50 and older. Eligible candidates
are provided with training programs and/or services that afford the best
opportunities for employment. The main function of this unit is to place
workers into unsubsidized employment by matching the job seeker and the
employer.
